Field Setup
- WooshBall fields can be setup indoors or out.
- In addition to home plate, there are only 2 bases - a left and right base.
- Left and right bases need to be large enough to accommodate multiple runners.
- Distances between the three bases is up to you.
Pitching & Base Running
No strikeouts or walks
Everyone hits. The pitcher’s job is to serve up a hittable ball. If a pitcher makes it hard for a batter to hit, they aren’t doing it right! Wooshball is a duel between the batters and the fielders, not batter vs. pitcher.
Fast-paced, constant pitching
The pitcher pitches balls quickly, one after another, without any of them being thrown back by a catcher. This would require enough balls to pitch one at-bat so that the batter hits during a quick pitching series. Once the ball is hit and the play occurs, then the pitcher can get another batch of balls ready for the next batter.
Choose your path
The batter can run in either direction after hitting the ball. This unique feature adds an element of surprise and excitement to the game, as players must be prepared for the possibility of the batter running in a different direction than expected.
It’s important to note that once the batter chooses a direction to run in, they must continue around the bases in that same direction. Changing course is not allowed and can result in the batter being called out. This seems like mayhem, but man, is it fun!
No force outs
Runners advance when they feel they can make it to the next base safely. This means there can be multiple runners on both left and right bases, all running in different directions!
Outs & End of Inning
Flyouts
Tags & Throws
Runners tagged before they get to base are out. In addition to tagging, the ball can be thrown at the runner. If they are hit with the ball en route to the their next base, they are out. Head shots don’t count.
Bounce outs
Balls fielded by outfielders on one bounce are out. Runners already on base can still advance on bounce outs.
End of Inning
An inning ends either when a team records three outs or when all of their hitters are on bases and there are no remaining batters, regardless of the number of outs.
